These wooden eggs were painted as part of a tradition of preserving/saving eggs started by the church. These eggs are from Kiev.

Painted eggs used in Czech folk tradition. Two people would crack eggs together to see which would break and which would not. Now the eggs are used mostly for decoration. Dying was done using beeswax and dyes.
