Subject

Description

This is a photo of Michele Wyman's great great grandmother and grandfather, Josie and Joe Scaletta. The photo is from 1907, and shows Josie and Joe on 13th and Harney street in Omaha, Ne. Their parents came from Italy, and would be Wyman's great great great grandparents. Her great great great grandfather originally came in 1885, with the first trace of him found in Joplin, MO. He came with his stepson Joe, and later Josie came with her stepmother. Joe and Josie were step-siblings, and then married each other. This side of Wyman's family is from Trabia, Sicily, while the other side is from Carlentini, Sicily. It is likely that the fruit stand read "California Fruit Stand" because the Scalettas allegedly lived in California for a short period of time, and then moved back to Omaha after an earthquake hit.
