Edo Harms and Emma Sutorius Marriage Certificate
Title
Edo Harms and Emma Sutorius Marriage Certificate
Description
This ornate document is a marriage certificate for Edo Harms and Emma Sutorius, maternal grandparents of Bill Dean, whose family provided the document. Born in 1889 in Humboldt, Nebraska, Emma Sutorius was a daughter of first-generation Americans Maria (Mary) Schuetz and Dirk Sutorius. Born in 1885, Edo emigrated from Germany in 1908 to evade the draft, and married only six years after coming to Nebraska in 1914.
The document is decorated in the German tradition with quotations from the Bible, roses and flower ornament.
