Description

Anna Karel declared that she had been widowed in order to collect her husband's pension in 1920 at the age of 77. In the middle to late nineteenth century, the U.S. Pension Bureau had grown large compared to its pre-Civil War size. It created bureaucratic procedures to provide reliable pension services to veterans. Forms such as these were part of this new bureaucracy.
